Course overview
The Summer School in Geomorphological Mapping in Tectonically Active Areas consists in a theoretical/practical course with the aim of disseminating the methodologies and criteria for geomorphological mapping and survey in seismic areas, bringing together students and researchers from different countries where seismic activity is studied from both a scientific and an applied point of view.
The students will be introduced to the new geomorphological legend recently launched by ISPRA (Istituto Superiore per la Protezione e la Ricerca Ambientale - Ministero dell'Ambiente e della sicurezza energetica), in collaboration with AIGeo (Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology). Theoretical lessons in the classroom will be followed by exercises and field surveys with final cartographic restitution, discussion and comparisons on the work carried out. The areas that will be investigated are those affected by the recent 2016 earthquake in Central Italy where more than 7000 surface geomorphological effects were recorded.
The course is directed to graduates in Geological, Natural, Environmental and Forestry Sciences (and equivalent degrees also obtained abroad), doctoral students, PhDs, professional geologists and employees of public and private authorities.
The School, organised by the University of Camerino, is part of the University's internationalisation initiative, the main aim of which is to meet and integrate the scientific communities of different countries, with a particular focus on young people. In this regard, the proposal has received the patronage of the IAG (International Association of Geomorphologists) and AIGeo (Associazione Italiana di Geografia Fisica e Geomorfologia).
course admission
The course is directed to graduates in Geological, Natural, Environmental and Forestry Sciences (and equivalent degrees also obtained abroad), doctoral students, PhDs, professional geologists and employees of public and private authorities.
It is recommended to have acquired the fundamentals in the fields of geography-physics and geomorphology in order to attend the course.
Applicants who have obtained a qualification outside Italy that is equivalent in level, nature and content and academic rights to the Italian qualification required for admission to the Course may apply. For recognition, reference is made to the current norms in force on the subject.
Admission to the course is limited to a maximum of 24 candidates who will be selected on the basis of a merit list, drawn up through the evaluation of their curriculum and also on the timeline of applications received.
The cost of the course is EUR 600; this amount includes registration fees, various materials, some meals, accommodation and transfers during field activities.
training activities
The entire School consists of 18 hours of face-to-face and 24 hours of practical activities in the field; including hours of individual study (33) then you get 3 credits (CFU).
There are a total of 6 teaching days: 2 in classroom, 3 in the field and the final 1 in classroom
Activities include: theoretical lectures, classroom exercises and workshops; field surveys with final production of a summary geomorphological map (in addition to personal study).
Attendance at teaching activities may not be less than 80% of the total number of activities planned.
At the end of the course, a certificate of attendance will be issued and the envisaged training credits will be awarded upon passing a final test, concerning a geomorphological cartographic work summarising the activities carried out in the field.
